Questrade has switched on extended-hours options trading for select U.S. stocks and ETFs, BetaKit reports. It’s built on Cboe’s recently extended hours, and orders can now be placed from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
The fine print:
- Only clients already approved for options trading can use it.
- Extended-hours orders must be limit orders, so you set the exact price you’ll accept.
- It covers a limited list of stocks and ETFs. Questrade says index options are expanding too, without details.
Questrade says it’s one of the first Canadian brokerages to offer this, not the first. Interactive Brokers confirmed its Canadian clients also have access to Cboe’s extended hours. “It gives our investors another way to respond to market-moving news,” said Luca De Blasis, Questrade’s head of product for investing and trading.
Why it matters: Earnings and big news often break outside market hours, so this lets Canadian traders react sooner. Questrade itself flags the catch: thinner trading outside regular hours means wider spreads and bigger price swings. For most people, it’s a tool to use carefully, if at all.
