Editorial standards

How we decide what to cover, how we check it, and what we do when we get something wrong.

Sourcing

  • Every factual claim links to its source. We prefer primary sources: regulator decisions, court rulings, filings, official data and company announcements.
  • We read every source before citing it. If we can't verify something, we leave it out.
  • When another outlet breaks a story, we credit it by name and link to it. We don't present anyone else's reporting as our own, and we don't copy other publications' text.
  • Rumours and leaks are labelled as such and attributed to the outlet that reported them.

Accuracy and fairness

  • Quotes come from published, attributed sources, and we never invent quotes, sources or details.
  • We separate what's known from what's argued, and we label analysis as analysis.
  • Prices are in Canadian dollars unless we say otherwise. When a source gives U.S. dollars, we give the Canadian figure too.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it and add a dated note at the bottom of the story explaining what changed. We don't quietly rewrite facts. Small fixes to spelling or formatting aren't noted.

Independence

  • We don't accept payment for coverage. If a post is ever sponsored, it will be clearly labelled.
  • Links to sources are there for readers to check our work, not for commission.

Images

We use official press and product images from the companies we cover, credited under each image. We don't use other publications' photos or unlicensed stock, and we don't publish fabricated images.

Dates and updates

Every story shows when it was published. Live coverage shows when it was last updated. All times are Eastern.
