Apple’s first folding iPhone goes on sale in Canada today. If you didn’t pre-order the minute orders opened on October 16, you may be waiting a while. Within hours, Apple’s Canadian site was showing shipping dates of January 26 for every colour and capacity, after reports of production problems limiting supply.
What it costs
Buying outright from Apple in Canada, per MobileSyrup:
| Storage | Price |
|---|---|
| 256GB | $2,999 |
| 512GB | $3,299 |
| 1TB | $3,899 |
| 2TB | $4,799 |
On a carrier, $0-down monthly financing ranges from $77.12 a month at Bell to $128.52 at Fido. Bell, Telus, Rogers, Eastlink and Videotron all offer device-return options that lower the monthly cost if you hand the phone back at the end of the term.
What it costs to fix
Apple’s Canadian repair prices, per MobileSyrup, out of warranty:
- Inner folding display: $1,499
- Outer display: $499
- Back glass: $269
- Battery: $319
- Other damage: up to $2,249
Why it matters: At $3,000 or more, the Duo is a serious purchase, and fixing the inner screen alone costs $1,499. If you’re buying one, factor in AppleCare+ or your carrier’s protection plan, and know your carrier’s return terms before you sign a two-year deal.
