Dayforce has agreed to acquire Ribbon AI, a Toronto startup whose software interviews job candidates using an AI-generated voice, BetaKit reports. The price and closing date weren’t disclosed.
Ribbon, founded in 2022 by CEO Arsham Ghahramani and COO Dave Vu, runs first-round screening interviews. It asks candidates questions based on the job description and also helps recruiters find candidates. Dayforce says the technology has hundreds of customers and has completed more than one million interviews. Ribbon raised $8.2 million USD (about $11.5 million CAD) in early 2025 in a round led by Toronto’s Radical Ventures.
Dayforce, the Toronto- and Minneapolis-based HR software company, plans to fold Ribbon into its “agentic” recruiting tools. “AI can take on more of the manual, time-sensitive work that slows hiring down,” said founder and CEO David Ossip. Dayforce itself is being taken private by U.S. private equity firm Thoma Bravo in a $12.3-billion USD (about $17-billion CAD) deal announced earlier this year.
Why it matters: For Canadian AI startups, a quick sale to a bigger Canadian-rooted company is a real outcome, and it keeps the team here, at least for now. For job seekers, it’s a sign that talking to an AI is becoming a normal first step in getting hired.
