Welcome back from the long weekend. It was a quiet one, so this is a short briefing.
1. Koho won’t add prediction markets
Prediction markets, which let people bet on real-world events, are the hot feature in U.S. fintech. Koho CEO Daniel Eberhard told the BetaKit podcast he won’t add them, calling them gambling dressed up as tech. Koho is instead focused on finishing its bid for a Schedule 1 bank licence. Why it matters: A fast-growing fintech turning down an easy engagement feature stands out, as more U.S. trading and betting apps court Canadians.
2. Geely says it’s coming to Canada in 2027
Chinese automaker Geely is officially entering the Canadian market, with its first vehicles planned for 2027, MobileSyrup reports. It’s setting up local operations and a retail network. Geely already sells here through brands it owns, including Volvo, Polestar and Lotus, but this is the first time the Geely brand itself will be sold in Canada.
Why it matters: More EV competition at the lower end of the market could push prices down, depending on how tariffs and import quotas on Chinese-built vehicles play out. No models or prices yet.
3. A Switch 2 bundle clearance at some Costcos
Some Costco Canada warehouses are clearing a Nintendo Switch 2 bundle (console, 256GB microSD Express card and a year of Switch Online) for $599.97, down from $789.99, iPhone in Canada reports. It varies by location, and stock is limited.
Why it matters: The console alone is $679.99 after Nintendo’s September price increase, so this is well below the usual price if your warehouse has it. Call ahead.
One more thing: A developer rebuilt Skate 3 in an open-source engine and set a demo level in Northern Ontario, complete with tricks off a moving snowmobile and a long Tim Hortons line, MobileSyrup reports. It’s a work in progress, and very Canadian.
