## The headliner: a touchscreen MacBook Pro

The new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros have what Apple calls a PROLED XDR display: a tandem OLED panel with the touch sensor built in, up to 2,000 nits of brightness and 120Hz ProMotion. A Dynamic Island now sits at the top of the screen. The hinge is redesigned to keep the screen steady when you tap it, and both sizes are lighter than before: 3 lb for the 14-inch and 4 lb for the 16-inch. They run the M5 Pro or M5 Max, with up to 24 hours of rated battery life, three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI and an SD card slot.

## The rest of the week

- **MacBook Pro with M6 (Tuesday).** The 14-inch model gets Apple's new M6 chip, without the touchscreen, from $2,799. It's now the way into the MacBook Pro line, $1,200 below the touchscreen model. [Our story](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-27-m6-macbook-pro-imac-canada/)
- **iMac with M6 (Tuesday).** The 24-inch iMac moves to the M6 in 10- and 12-core versions. [Our story](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-27-m6-macbook-pro-imac-canada/)
- **iPad mini (Monday).** An 8.5-inch OLED screen, A20 Pro chip and IP67 water resistance. [Our story](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-26-ipad-mini-oled-canada/)

## Is there a "Canada tax"?

Not on these. At the Bank of Canada's Oct. 26 rate of 1.4025, the touchscreen MacBook Pro's U.S. starting price of $2,899 USD works out to about $4,066, so the $3,999 Canadian price is slightly lower. Three of the four touchscreen models are priced a little below a straight conversion, and the M6 Macs and iPad mini are too, as we found in [this week's price check](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-27-canada-tax-gadgets/).

**Why it matters:** If you've been waiting for a new MacBook Pro, the choice is now clear-cut: $2,799 for the M6 model, or $3,999 and up for OLED and touch. You can follow how today unfolded in our [live coverage](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-28-apple-pro-and-tell-2026-live/).
