Here's what happened in tech yesterday, and what's coming today.

## 1. Apple's event is today, and the M6 Macs came first

Apple's "Pro and Tell" event starts at 1 p.m. ET. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports Apple has discussed US$2,899 for a 14-inch touchscreen MacBook Pro and at least US$3,399 for a 16-inch, [iPhone in Canada reports](https://www.iphoneincanada.ca/2026/10/27/touch-macbook-pro-over-4000-canada/). That's about $4,066 and $4,767 CAD at today's exchange rate, if Apple prices it that way here. Apple got a head start Tuesday with an [M6 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-27-m6-macbook-pro-imac-canada/), from $2,799 and $2,099 in Canada.

**Why it matters:** Canadian prices land with the announcement. We'll have them [live from 1 p.m. ET](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-28-apple-pro-and-tell-2026-live/).

## 2. Bell sells 49.9% of its towers to La Caisse

La Caisse will pay [$2.45 billion](https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/bce-announces-partnership-with-la-caisse-which-will-acquire-49-9-stake-in-bell-wireless-tower-infrastructure-company-822276026.html) for just under half of a new company that will own more than 5,000 Bell tower sites. Bell keeps control, its spectrum and its network equipment, and uses the cash to pay down debt. [Read the full story](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-27-bell-towerco-la-caisse/)

**Why it matters:** Telus did the same deal last year. Whether smaller carriers get onto these towers is the part to watch.

## 3. Canada's cyber agency warns about AI-run attacks

The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security [published a bulletin](https://www.cyber.gc.ca/en/guidance/cyber-threat-bulletin-agentic-artificial-intelligence-accelerating-cyber-attacks) on a group Microsoft calls Storm-0940, which has used an AI agent framework against hundreds of organizations. In some cases it went from picking a target to privileged access to cloud systems in under three hours. Humans still choose the targets, but much of the work in between is automated. [Read the full story](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-28-cyber-centre-agentic-ai-attacks/)

**Why it matters:** Its advice is old-fashioned: phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication, prompt patching, and a plan for incidents that unfold in hours, not days.

## 4. The privacy commissioner will investigate the Crime Stoppers breach

Privacy Commissioner Philippe Dufresne [is investigating](https://www.priv.gc.ca/en/opc-news/news-and-announcements/2026/nr-c_261027/) Navigate360, the company that runs the tip platform used by Crime Stoppers chapters. It will look at whether the company's security met federal privacy law. Crime Stoppers itself is a not-for-profit, which that law generally doesn't cover. More than 1.5 million tips were affected, according to a CBC investigation, [as we reported](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-21-crime-stoppers-tips-leak/).

**Why it matters:** Anonymous tips only work if people trust they'll stay anonymous.

## 5. A Canadian-dollar stablecoin clears a key hurdle

The Ontario Securities Commission has approved the prospectus for Calgary-based Loon's CADC, a token backed one-to-one by Canadian dollars held in trust at ATB Financial, [BetaKit reports](https://betakit.com/loon-clears-key-regulatory-hurdle-to-offer-canadian-dollar-backed-stablecoin/). There's no launch date yet. Stablecorp's QCAD received similar approval last year.

**Why it matters:** It comes days after Ottawa [proposed its stablecoin rules](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-25-weekend-briefing/), so more regulated CAD tokens are likely on the way.

## 6. Fido's $5 autopay discount now needs a bank account

Fido's $5-a-month automatic payment discount now applies only if you pay by pre-authorized bank debit or a Rogers Bank credit card. Existing customers have until Nov. 20 to switch, [iPhone in Canada reports](https://www.iphoneincanada.ca/2026/10/27/fido-autopay-discount-bank-debit-rogers-card/). Rogers made the same change for mobile customers in September.

**Why it matters:** That's $60 a year per line if you keep paying by Visa or Mastercard, before the 1.6% card fee Rogers and Fido add in January.

**One more thing:** GTA 6 is reportedly a 210 GB download, and in Canada even the boxed copy is just a code. At 50 Mbps, that's more than nine hours. [Here's how long it takes on your connection](https://thecircuit.ca/posts/2026-10-27-gta-6-download-size-canada/).
